My Little Stars

Making a difference in the life of a child!

Here is a peek inside what our day looks like..

some days we need to shuffle things around or skip them altogether..

the children's needs and moods come first!

7:30: ARRIVAL & BUS PICKUP: Families begin to arrive at 7:30 am. As the children arrive, they are greeted by staff and invited to participate in Free Play. Parents must sign their child in and out every day. Children should not be walking in with any food or drink. School aged children will walk up to the bus stop at 8:10 with Alan.

7:30 – 9:00: FREE PLAY: Free Play is unstructured, voluntary, child-initiated activity that allows children to develop their imaginations while exploring and experiencing the world around them. As a play based daycare and preschool we engage in free play often.

9:00 - 9:30: CIRCLE TIME: We gather together as a group for learning activities. We practice our ABC’s and 123’s. We sing other songs that we are learning and talk about the days activities. This is also a good time for the kids to share things that they are excited about. During this time the kids are also offered a morning snack.

9:30-10:00: MUSIC & MOVEMENT: This is an inside or outside activity, weather permitting. We’re working on those gross motor skills and getting them moving! We sing songs with big movements like The Hokey Pokey, If You’re Happy and You Know It, Head Shoulders Knees and Toes, Etc. We play games like Simon Says or I Spy.

10:00 - 10:30: GROUP ACTIVITY: Every day we do a group activity of some kind. These activities may include but are not limited to arts and crafts; ELA, science or math activities; social development; games; stories; dramatic play; Table activities, music and movement; and/or outside play.

10:30 - 11:30: FREE PLAY or OUTSIDE PLAY: If our group activity doesn’t overlap into this time slot then the kids get extra free play time. During the warmer days we use this time for extra outside playtime.

11:30 - 12:30: LUNCH IS SERVED! Lunch is provided by parents in lunch bags and ready to serve. This is a very social part of our day. We encourage table manners and social etiquette.

12:30 - 2:30: NAP TIME: Children sleep or rest on nap mats provided by their parents. Most of the children in our care nap for 1.5 – 2 hours. If they don’t sleep, that’s ok too. The quiet time is necessary for them to reset their bodies and prepare for the afternoon activities. **When we have infants in attendance, this is also when we do tummy time.

2:30 - 3:30: STORY TIME & A SNACK: After everyone is awake, which sometimes happens earlier or later than 3, we gather around the table for snack time. While the kids are eating their snack, we often read a story or play music.

3:30 - 4:00: TABLE ACTIVITIES: Puzzles, Blocks, Sensory Play, Magnetics, Etc. At this time of day we want to encourage calmer activities to help them settle and focus before heading home.

4:00-4:30: INDEPENDENT PLAY/CLEAN UP/DISMISSAL: Many of our kids go home around 4/4:30 and so we clean up and let the kids that are still here play with their choice of toys. Sometimes we continue our table activities or blocks and puzzles during this time.

SUMMERTIME: We continue to follow our routine, but our activities are much less structured and geared more for outside activities. Also, check out our summer calendar of events.
